Common questions

Solar Panel Cleaning FAQs

Do solar panels really need cleaning?

Yes. Dust, pollen, bird muck and general grime build up on the glass and quietly cut how much electricity the panels generate — often by more than owners realise. A proper clean lets the system get back to working at its best.

Doesn't the rain keep them clean?

Not really. Rain rinses off loose dust but leaves the stubborn film of grime, pollen and bird muck behind — and as rainwater dries it can leave mineral deposits of its own. That is why panels still lose output even in a wet British climate.

Will cleaning scratch the panels?

No. We use the right equipment for the job and clean gently, so the glass is never scratched or damaged and your system is left exactly as the manufacturer intended — just cleaner.

Do you use chemicals or detergent?

No — we clean with pure water only. It lifts the grime and dries without streaks or residue, which matters because detergent residue actually attracts dirt and would leave the panels getting dirty again faster.

How often should panels be cleaned?

It depends on the site — panels near trees, busy roads or farmland, or on homes with a lot of bird activity, get dirty faster than others. We are happy to advise on a sensible interval for your setup when we survey the job.

How do you reach the panels safely?

We start every job with a safe assessment of the access and panel layout, then work from suitable access equipment. We never stand on the panels themselves.
